DIRECTOR
Robert Shuter (Ph.D) is director and founder of the Center for Intercultural New Media Research. A pioneer in intercultural communication studies, Dr. Shuter is currently research professor of international & intercultural communication at Arizona State University (USA), professor emeritus at Marquette University (USA), and former chair of the International and Intercultural Communication Division of the National Communication Association.
A noted researcher on communication and new media across cultures, he has published over 85 articles and books in major scholarly journals including Journal of Social Psychology, Journal of Communication, Communication Monographs, Management Communication Quarterly as well as popular press outlets like the New York Times, Wall Street Journal and Huffington Post. His article titled Intercultural New Media Studies: The Next Frontier in Intercultural Communication (Journal of Intercultural Communication Research, 2012) established the sub-discipline of intercultural new media studies. He has edited several special journal issues on intercultural new media studies including intercultural new media research for the Journal of International and Intercultural Communication(2011) as well as a special issue of the Journal of Intercultural Communication Research (2012) on new media research across cultures. RESEARCH ASSOCIATES
Research associates from across the globe, representing multiple academic disciplines, serve as the nucleus of the Center – envisioning, initiating, and conducting social scientific investigations on new media across cultures. Each Center associate has extensive research experience in some aspect of global communication within their academic specialty and is interested in intercultural new media research, including the aims and goals of the Center. To initiate and conduct intercultural new media research, CINMR research associates will have access to a searchable and interactive directory enabling them to identify and communicate with Center research associates across the globe. Student research associates possess a research interest in culture and new media and are currently enrolled in MA or Ph.D programs. Student research associates have full access to the CINMR interactive page, including the searchable and interactive directory, and they are encouraged to participate in the CINMR forum, blog, and research projects.
Senior research associates -- composed of a select group of Center research associates -- assist the director with essential Center functions including monitoring on-going Center research plans, identifying viable research investigations, locating potential sources of research funding, and organizing Center meetings and conferences.
